Feature Highlight: Candidate Activity Level
Problem
Discovering qualified candidates that are already in your system can be a challenge. You may tag individuals for easy searching later or perhaps you review candidates in interview statuses from previously closed jobs to find individuals who may be a good fit for an opening you have now. However, the candidate information you are looking at may be out of date, and past candidates may have taken other opportunities. While there are a few ways to guess if a candidate is still actively interested in your organization using Updated Date or Created Date filters in searches, there is still a likely chance that many of the candidates you reach out to may not respond due to outdated information or lack of interest.
Solution
Using the Activity Level feature in iCIMS Connect (Legacy CRM), you can gain better insight into passive candidates' or past candidates' current interest in your organization. Activity Level provides a graphical representation of a candidate's 'activity' score and is designed to give you a quick summary of how up-to-date their information and interest level is, based on certain interactions they have with your organization.
Activity Level can be added as a filter and/or column in any search that involves candidate information, such as Candidate, Event Attendee, Sourcing Workflow and Recruiting Workflow searches. Using Activity Level, you can quickly and easily find candidates who have high scores to better target actively engaged candidates.
How Activity Level Works
There are four categories of activity that together determine the Activity Level score for a candidate:
- Uploading Resumes - A candidate's score increases when they upload a new resume to their profile on the Connect portal.
- Note: The score does not include the initial resume uploaded when a candidate created their profile.
- Email Interactions - A candidate's score increases when they open an email sent through a Connect Email Campaign or respond to an email sent from the system.
- Job Applications - A candidate's score increases when they complete a job application on the Connect portal.
- Career Portal Logins - A candidate's score increases when they log in to the Connect portal.
To ensure a candidate's Activity Level score stays up-to-date, the score will decrease over time, with older activities having less impact on the overall score. By default, the value of activities within each category will depreciate after 90 days. For example, if a candidate uploads a new resume, that upload will initially boost their Activity Level score. After 90 days, the value of that specific resume upload will decrease, and their Activity Level score will decrease accordingly.
The amount of time that passes before an activity's value decreases can be set per activity category so that certain activities stay pertinent for more or less time than the other factors. For example, Email Interactions can be set to decrease in value after only 10 days; as a result, the score contribution of opening or responding to emails will decrease quickly if a candidate does not continually interact with emails.
Additionally, the weight for each activity category can be adjusted so that the overall score is more heavily influenced by certain activities. By default, activities within each category impact the overall score equally.

How to Use Activity Level
The easiest way to use Activity Level is to add the Person-type column called Activity Level to your searches. This allows you to view Activity Level per candidate at a glance within the search results; clicking on the icon will provide more information about the specific interactions the candidate has had with your organization that contributed to their score.
There are also Activity Level search filters available for use to further target your actively engaged candidates. The Activity Level filter allows you to limit your search results to only candidates who have a score within a certain range - Low (score of 0-49), Medium (score of 50-74) or High (score of 75-100). Date filters for each of the activity categories (such as Last Resume Updated Activity Date) enable searches to be more precise by focusing on candidates who have recently performed a certain action within a given time frame.
The example above shows a Sourcing Workflow search that will return candidates who have either a Medium or High Activity Level Score, have updated their Resume within the past 30 days, and are located within 25 miles of a specified zip code.
The Activity Level filters and columns can be used in combination with a variety of other filters to create searches tailored to finding the type of candidate you are looking for, and, by using Activity Level, you can rest assured the candidates in your search results are up to date and active!
